Kodak Retina IIIc (021)

A mechanically similar camera to the Retina IIc, but with the addition of an uncoupled selenium lightmeter and fitted with an f/2 rather than the f/2.8 lens. The front element of the lens is interchangeable with 35mm or 80mm components, these needing the use of the auxiliary viewfinder which fits in the accessory shoe. Unfortunately the rangefinder only couples accurately with the 50mm lens, requiring a degree of cross-referencing of distance scales when the auxiliary lenses are used. The auxiliary lenses for this model are discussed in detail on the Retina IIIC page. A point to note with these cameras, the lens serial number is engraved on the lens mount as well as on the lens, they should both match. The camera shown above (and below right), fitted with a Xenon lens, is a late production model, (type 021 II), probably from October 1957, showing some of the features of the Retina IIIC, in that the exposure meter does not have the hinge-up cover for the dual-range meter, normally associated with the earlier IIIc, (below left), and the exposure calculation control is of a larger diameter. Note however that the rangefinder window is still small, like the Retina IIc, with the diamond-shaped aperture.
